The framework for disclosing nature-related dependencies, impacts, risks and opportunities.
- Jurisdiction
- Global (voluntary)
- Status
- Voluntary standard
- Applies to
- Companies and financial institutions disclosing on nature; used alongside TCFD/ISSB climate reporting.
- Timeline
- Sept 2023 — Final recommendations published
- 2024 onward — Early adopters report; ISSB takes up nature-related disclosure building on TNFD's work
- Last reviewed
- June 2026
What it requires
Fourteen recommended disclosures across the same four pillars as TCFD — governance, strategy, risk and impact management, metrics and targets — applied to nature.
The LEAP approach
- Locate your interface with nature, especially in sensitive locations
- Evaluate your dependencies and impacts
- Assess the resulting risks and opportunities
- Prepare to respond and report
Why it matters for your work
Nature risk is location-specific in a way climate risk often isn't. The work draws on ecology, GIS and supply-chain mapping as much as on reporting.
Watch for
Global baseline standard-setting on nature is moving. Expect TNFD-based reporting to become more structured over the next few cycles.
